Theme: 'The challenges of planning, designing and construction/renovating buildings for archives and special collections/musuems in South Africa'

This workshop is an opportunity for us as custodians of collections in our Cultural Institutions to communicate and discuss our needs and concerns, with a range of professionals, including architects, various contractors, service providers for pest management and air quality control, the heritage agency, and document warehouse storage agents if we are to ensure the best design and performance of a facility that will contribute to the Preservation Management and Access to our collections in general and also promote energy saving greenhouse buildings .
Topics for discussion include: Geographical location Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Environmental recommendations/ internal and external monitoring Lighting - natural and artificial Pest management and control Disaster preparedness Safety and security storage and transportation Fittings and furnishings Access for the physically challenged users The Dream preservation/conservation lab.
